SOC 2 Readiness Without the Panic
A practical sequence for reaching SOC 2 Type II readiness: scope first, controls second, evidence automation third.

Get the scope right first
Most painful SOC 2 programmes are painful because the scope was never bounded. Decide which systems are in the service commitment, and be explicit about what is excluded and why.
Design controls you can actually run
A control that requires heroic manual effort will fail during the observation window. Prefer controls that are a by-product of how your teams already work.
- Change management enforced in the pipeline
- Access reviews driven from your identity provider
- Vendor review tied to procurement, not memory
Automate the evidence
Type II is an evidence exercise across time. Capture evidence continuously from the source system rather than reconstructing it the week before fieldwork.
